Synopsis

EVEN THE BROKEN, THROUGH LOVE, CAN FIND GRACE…

Secrets never stay hidden.

The burden of guilt never lifts from the heart.

Born and raised in The Order of David, Sister Phebe knows nothing but cult life. Head of the Sacred Sisters of New Zion, Phebe was groomed from childhood for one purpose: to seduce. Prized as a harlot, as a New Zion whore, Phebe is taken from the doomed cult by Meister, the notorious leader of the Aryan Brotherhood. Taken as his possession. Taken to be the woman who will obey his every sexual demand. Under his heavy hand, Phebe finds herself in a place much worse than she could ever have imagined… with absolutely no one to help. And no glimpse of hope.

Xavier ‘AK’ Deyes is content with his life as Sergeant-At-Arms of the Hades Hangmen. Leader of the infamous ‘Psycho Trio’ and ex-special ops sniper, AK knows how to fight. Experienced in warfare and schooled in military operations, AK is vital to the Hangmen. When his Vice President needs help retrieving his missing sister-in-law, Phebe, from a Klan-funded trafficking ring, AK volunteers to go in. AK remembers the redhead from New Zion. Remembers everything about her from the single time they met—her red hair, blue eyes and freckled face. But when he finds her, heavily drugged and under Meister’s control, her sorry condition causes him to remember more than the beautiful woman he once tied to a tree. Saving Phebe forces hidden demons from his past to return. A past he can never move on from, no matter how hard he tries.

As AK fights to help Phebe, and in turn she strives to help him, they realize their secret sins will never leave them alone. Kindred broken souls, they realize the only way they can be rid of their ghosts is to face them together and try to find peace.

Despair soon turns to hope, and damaged hearts soon start to heal. But when their deep, painful scars resurface, becoming too much to bear, the time comes when they must make a heavy choice: stay forever damned; or together, find grace.

Dark Contemporary Romance. Contains explicit sexual situations, violence, disturbingly sensitive and taboo subjects, offensive language and very mature topics. Recommended for age 18 and over.

Review

I’ve been anxiously waiting for a story about one of the other two members of the Psycho Trio and with how AK took on Flame’s brother, Little Ash, when Ash became part of the Hades Hangmen family and Flame needed some time to adjust to not just knowing he had a little brother but also to the knowledge that Ash also suffered at the hands of their father, I wanted to know AK’s backstory and the reasons behind his carefree facade and his tormented eyes – ones he doesn’t allow any of his brothers to see.

I wasn’t sure what kind of hell Tillie Cole had in store for the Hangmen and their women after exacting revenge on the New Zion commune, but I knew whatever it was, it was bound to be just as fucked up and twisted as the “Cult Cunts,” and after witnessing the deplorable and inhumane actions of the Aryan Brotherhood, it’s clear that there’s a special place in hell for the “Klan Scum” and their followers.

AK and Phebe live with the guilt and shame that comes with a past full of assumed “sins” and disturbing nightmares, and while they believe their penance requires them to make amends by enduring painfully vivid memories and a loneliness that no one else can understand except those who have gone through similar situations, they find a kindred spirit in each other, which not only calms them in remarkable ways but also provides them with an array of peaceful moments – ones that allow them to step out of their self-imposed prison of pain and shed some of the burden they carry.

AK is the perfect combination of biker badass and loyal, caring brother and friend, and when Phebe (Red) finds a way to get beneath AK’s tough exterior, readers are graced with a man who may be fighting countless demons, but he’s also a man who knows the meaning of brotherhood and isn’t afraid to reign down hell and damnation, especially on those people who get off on harming and torturing women simply because they can.

As one of the Sacred Sisters of New Zion, Phebe has used her body and her seduction skills in order to lure men to her side, and while her duty allows men to treat her as a whore, who she is at her core is a damaged woman who does whatever she has to in order to protect those who mean EVERYTHING to her.

As both AK and Phebe struggle with their personal demons, their understanding of each other’s burdens and the darkness within them allows their damned existences to find moments of grace and joy amidst the chaos of their minds and their hearts.

An added bonus to Damnable Grace is the development of Flame and Lil Ash’s relationship as well as Ash’s further integration into the Hades Hangmen brotherhood. Ash is definitely coming into his own the longer he stays and interacts with the Hangmen and witnessing his progression and transformation complements the main storyline and allows readers a bit of insight into what’s to come, not only for Flame and Ash but the club as well.

Tillie Cole continues to draw readers into her dark, dangerous, and destructive world of bikers and those groups of people not only gunning for the Hangmen’s demise but also to fulfill their own sick and twisted needs – ones that treat women and young girls as nothing but possessions to be used and abused in the most inhumane ways possible. And, as the Hangmen claim their women and help those who can’t help themselves, readers see beneath the men’s harsh exteriors and foul mouths and understand that the lines they’re willing to cross allow them to do what needs to be done in order to have each other’s back and the backs of those who are under their protection.

After every story in the series, I remain in awe of Cole’s storytelling abilities and the meticulous and thorough development of her story lines and her characters. Cole allows readers to become a part of her Hangmen club and as honorary members, we can’t help but want to deliver retribution in the deadliest ways so that a clear message is sent to those who dare to mess with those the club has claimed and would willingly die for.
