ONLY THROUGH BLOOD CAN THE DEEPEST REDEMPTION BE FOUND…
He was born to ascend.
He was destined to lead.
He was never meant to fail.
Prophet Cain lies broken and defeated on the floor of his cell. A cell he has been thrown into by the one person who was supposed to stand by his side until the end. His flesh and blood, his only companion. His beloved twin brother.
Cain has sacrificed everything for his people. He left the safety and security of his life of study to infiltrate the infamous Hades Hangmen. He lived with them, rode with them, and then betrayed them. All in the name of a faith he can now feel slipping away from him. Like everything else he once held dear…
But then his isolation is broken. Another prisoner is brought to the cell next to his. A woman fighting her own demons and fears. A woman who Cain understands needs him, as he needs her.
As the connection between them grows, so does Cain’s resolve. He will right the wrongs he has done. He will atone for the evil acts carried out in his name. He will save the one he loves…
… Even if the battle takes him to the gates of hell itself.
Contemporary Dark Romance. Contains explicit sexual situations, violence, sensitive and taboo subjects, offensive language, and mature topics. Recommended for age 18 years and up.
The prophet has risen, but his reign has brought him nothing but darkness and a questioning of faith because as he sees the practices of his people for the first time and the blind faith his disciples show to the New Order, it forces Prophet Cain to look inward and reevaluate everything that he’s believed in and everything that he has seen as sin.
Throughout the course of the Hades Hangmen series, readers have been shown the reprehensible practices of New Zion and its steps to take down sin, more specifically, the hangmen, in an epic holy war. What readers have also been privy to is Rider/Cain’s deception and the ill effects of his determination to follow through with his uncle’s plans in the name of their religion.
I may not be in the majority, but throughout Rider’s betrayal and quest to undermine the Hangmen and kidnap the Cursed Sisters of Eve who sought protection from the motorcycle club, I never saw Rider/Cain as truly evil. He’s been immersed in his faith since he was a boy – raised to believe the teachings of his Uncle and the Order. How could he not wholeheartedly believe when it’s all he’s ever known? Does Cain need to own up to his part in all that’s occurred with the Hangmen, absolutely, but through the course of Deep Redemption, it’s clear that he has since had a crisis of faith, and he understands that even though he didn’t partake in his faith’s practices, he allowed the acts to be done in his name.
Deep Redemption is 100% Cain’s story, but without Harmony, a casted out sinner like himself, it’s clear that he would not have had the will to let go of his guilt and redeem himself the only way he knows how – freeing both himself and a few others of his faith who do not believe in their practices.
Harmony is the perfect match for Cain. She’s fearless, selfless, and determined to fight against the injustice that has been done to the women of her faith. As a Cursed Sister of Eve, she is to see herself as a whore…as a temptress…as a sinner in the purest form. But with the help of those closest to her and the connection she makes with Cain/Rider, she prepares to fight with everything she has and find a way to not only save those she loves, but also to prove to Cain that he has the ability to redeem himself…to be the man he truly is beneath the persona he created and the mask he was born with due to his family’s religious practices.
Tillie Cole’s Hades Hangmen series is such a well written and captivating group of books because Cole vividly shows readers the complexity of her characters and the dark and dramatic aspects of their lives. Readers experience the unbearable and demonstrative acts that are done to her main characters right along side of them because her writing concretely illustrates everything that occurs, and while some of those moments are difficult to endure, readers can’t help but dive deeper into the darkness with the characters in order to find out how they will rise above it all and reach a place where they don’t have to battle those demons alone.
Prophet Cain’s soul is turned sinister due to the atrocities of his faith, and when he is reborn into a devilish man, he works to redeem and liberate his conscience so that he no longer has to pretend to be someone that he truly isn’t, which is exactly what redemption is.
